Our History
The demolition of Babri Masjid on Dec 6, 1992 by forces trying to change the composite
civilization of India to a fascistic Hindu Rashtra led to the formation of NRISAD
(Non-Resident Indians for Secularism and Democracy) in Vancouver.
The goal of the organization was to promote secular and democratic values among
Indians living abroad and to oppose the growth of intolerance in India.
This work has led to the understanding that the people of South Asia share problems
and interests that connect them across national boundaries. To reflect this experience
of solidarity NRISAD has developed into SANSAD (South Asian Network for Secularism
and Democracy).
